Samburu County is located 300 km North of Nairobi city, about a four hour’s drive through Isiolo-Marsabit road. You can also take a 30-minute flight from the Wilson airport in Nairobi to Samburu using either Safarilink or AirKenya Express flight operators. The landscape is dotted with wildlife of every kind and is characteristically sparsely populated due to the nomadic nature of the Samburu people. There are, however, substantial populations in the urban spaces such as Maralal town, Baragoi, Wamba and the Archers Post.
The Samburu, who are part of the larger Maa community in Kenya, are among the most stellar people, who have remained true to their cultural roots. They embody the true spirit of Africa and indeed are the emblematic representation of East Africa’s Safari image internationally. You would easily remember the regal adorn of the Samburu; usually a red or brown cloak, the iconic colorful beadworks tapering the length of their necks, the man- ifest earrings with meaningful associations, age group defined anklets and bracelets, and the everlasting leather sandals that outlive the wearer.
